And God Created Woodman is the fourteenth episode of the sixth season of the NBC series Cheers.


Rebecca wants to impress the chairman of the board for the corporation that owns Cheers by hosting a cocktail party at in his home. She recruits Sam and Woody to be bartenders for the event. Woody mistakenly uses an expensive vase as a trash can, and when Rebecca tries to covertly clean it out the vase gets broken. Woody takes the blame and subsequently becomes the best friend of the Chairman.

  • In this episode, the name of the corporation, Lillian, is established. According to Rebecca, it was originally called Drox Chemical, Die, and Munitions but they changed it to Lillian when the decided that no one would believe their motto "We care about people".
  • This is the first of four episodes to be directed by John Ratzenberger. Out of all the Cheers cast members, Ratzenberger and George Wendt are the only ones to direct on the show. Kelsey Grammer would later start to direct on his spin-off Frasier.
  • It is revealed that Rebecca's current position as bar manager is actually a step down in her career. She originally joined the corporation as a junior executive.
  • In this episode, Frasier says that he loves tassels. However, in the Frasier episode My Coffe With Niles, Frasier tells his brother that he does not like them.
