Paul is one of the background barflies on Cheers. Tall and somewhat hunched, Paul speaks with a thick New England accent.
Paul's most memorable scenes come when he is riding Cliff, usually specifically targeting Cliff's mailman career. Cliff and Paul almost came to blows twice, in "No Contest" and in Little Sister Don't Cha. In the former episode, he and Cliff had the following exchange:
- Cliff (to Norm, but letting Paul overhear): Ah, the post office is everybody's target, y'know? But when they want a letter fast, huh? Who do they come to on their knees?
- Paul: Federal Express!
- Cliff: He's MINE!!
