Peterson Crusoe is the 11th episode of the third season of Cheers. It was written by David Angell and directed by James Burrows. It originally aired on the NBC network in the United States on December 13, 1984.

Synopsis[]

Norm has a health scare that makes him reconsider his life and goals. Meanwhile, Diane challenges Carla to a waitressing contest.

Diane manages to serve every single drink wrong which Carla laughs at and so they get into an argument over who the better waitress is. They decide to have a competition with Carla giving Diane a ten dollar head start. They try to get Sam to be their neutral judge but since he doesn't care Coach decides to be the judge. They talk to him about how if anyone suspects foul play they will go to him.

  • Norm had an interview and physical in Braintree. Braintree, Massachusetts is a town southeast of Boston.
  • In a sad irony, this episode starts out centering on Norm (George Wendt) thinking he could be dying because of his heart. Meanwhile, Nicholas Colasanto was very unhealthy with heart troubles, and would pass away before the end of the season was done filming.
  • The title references the 1719 novel Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe about an English castaway who spends 28 years on a remote tropical island near Venezuela, encountering Native Americans, captives, and mutineers before being rescued. The story has been the basis for plays, radio dramas, movies and television shows
