Diane insists the boys take Frasier fishing with them, but they decide to take him on a snipe hunt instead.

A Customer is singing a song which passes on to Carla after she takes his order, it then passes from her to Diane to her customer, that one leaves but a third customer walks past her and catches the song, ordering from Coach who starts to sing it.

- The title of this episode is a take on "The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter", a novel by Carson McCullers, and later a film by the same name.
- Sam's claim that there is no such thing as a snipe is not true. Snipe are a genus of wetlands-dwelling birds native to Europe and North America. They are notoriously difficult to flush and to hit while on the wing, and this has given rise to the modern meaning of "snipe hunt", synonymous with "fool's errand".
- The opening shot is of Boston Commons with the George Washington statue. In the distance is the John Hancock Tower.
- The events of this episode are later referenced in the Frasier episode Cheerful Goodbyes, when Carla and Norm tell Frasier's brother Niles about the snipe hunt.
